Reform in Czechoslovakia[]
When Miloš Štrougal came to power in early 1993, he was very poorly known within Czechoslovakia itself. He would, however, quickly become one of the most loved and hated people in its history.
Miloš Štrougal is, by all definitions, a reformer. He has softened the authority of the Communist Party on most aspects of daily life, allowing freedom in most areas. For this he was heavily resented by other Warsaw Pact members and orthodox "Stalinists" within Czechoslovakia.
Government[]
Czechoslovakia is a communist, semi-federal Republic.
Leaders[]
Leader | Method of Departure |
---|---|
Miloš Štrougal | Incumbent. |
Jaroslav Hravat | Not reelected. |
Lubomir Strougal | Not reelected. |
Economy[]
See here for historic developments.
In recent times, economic laws in Czechoslovakia have been loosened, as the government has allowed small-scale private enterprises to be set up. An economic accord was signed with the newly socialist nation of Burma, exporting cars and heavy machinery in exchange for much needed oil and gas supplies.
